Beautiful Boy, starring Welsh actor Michael Sheen, has picked up the prize of the International Critics for the Discovery programme at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival.
Beautiful Boy is the début feature film from director Shawn Ku. It tells the story of the devastating aftermath of an American college shooting spree from the perspective of the parents of the teenage gunman, played by Sheen and Maria Bello.

The couple’s faltering marriage is put under further strain as they confront the feelings of guilt and anguish of their son’s crime, struggle to find refuge from the public and media backlash while at the same time grieve the death of their child.
The jury commented: This film shows its audience that in a world of chaos and insanity, humanity is the only key to life.
Meanwhile, The King’s Speech – starring Colin Firth as King George VI – scooped the main prize at the festival. Read more about the awards on the Toronto International Film Festival website.

A new film produced by Eric Gozlan of Gold Rush Entertainment and Lee Clay just wrapped filming in L.A. Introducing Shawn Ku’s directorial debut, “Beautiful Boy” is the story of a family torn apart by their son’s college killing spree.
Shawn Ku made a quite a stir at the Sundance Film Festival with his music short, “Pretty Dead Girl.”
In addition to Maria Bello and Michael Sheen, the film also includes an interesting cast including Moon Bloodgood, Alan Tudyk, Kyle Gallner, Austin Nickols and Meat Loaf. Executive producers include Mark Moran, Richard Gabai and Richard Iott.

A Welsch actor, Michael Sheen is become best known for portraying public figures such as Tony Blair in “The Deal,” David Frost in “Frost/Nixon” and others. He was appointed as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2009 and was named Actor of the Year by GQ Magazine in 2009.
Some people think that movies are required to receive a rating in order to be shown. This is actually not true. Movie companies submit their movies on a voluntary basis to the MPAA to get their movies rated. These movie ratings aren’t law and the theaters don’t have to enforce the rules set out by the MPAA, although many do.

An NC-17 rating instructs the theater not to let anyone in who is under 17 no matter what.
